Homework Assignments

Objective

To learn about typography through textbook reading and other assignments. To learn advanced technical skills through self-guided video tutorials on Linkedin Learning. To become proficient with digital tools for information literacy, visual literacy, inspiration, productivity and communication. To become independent lifelong learners.

Description

Using discussion forums, students will work in teams to check each other's reading comprehension of the required textbook:

In addition, students will be required to watch video tutorials on Linkedin Learning. Parkland provides free access to Linkedin Learning for all current students.

Your weekly discussion post must also include a link to your Pinterest Assignment which should be updated every week.

Note: This is a peer-reviewed assignment. The quality of the work you do will be graded by your classmates. Extra credit is also available for student who do additional tutorials when prompted in Cobra (please add the words "Extra Credit" to the subject of your Cobra post).

Procedure
  1. Login to your Cobra Learning account every week via my.parkland.edu or cobra.parkland.edu.
  2. Select "CONTENT," then select the assignment for the week and follow the instructions
  3. When prompted, login to your Linkedin Learning account and watch and/or do the Lynda tutorial(s) assigned. Make JPEGs showing the results of your finished tutorial file(s) when prompted. Upload the JPEGs as attachments to your post.
  4. Post your completed assignment by Thursday (spelling, grammar and clarity of thought count!)
  5. Read and respond to at least 6 of your classmates by Saturday (respond to your team members first, then respond to posts that have the least number of responses) — be sure to 'like' their pins too!
  6. While responding to your classmates' posts, score their homework assignment by assigning one to five stars to their posts based on the grading rubric below.
  7. Optional: For extra credit, choose a video to watch from "The 33 Laws of Typography" on Linkedin Learning and summarize what you learned in the tutorial. Comment on whether this "law" is an important law. Please title your thread using your name and "+ extra credit." Also provide a link to the video.

Schedule

Your initial post is due Thursday at 11:30pm of every week. You must also respond to your classmates' posts by the following Saturday at 11:30pm.

Note: Homework assignments are graded pass/fail. Full credit will be given each week only if both parts of the assignment are completed on time.
