Septic Services

Septic system inspection

an inspection is usually requested for the closing on a house sale, a refinancing, an appraisal, or sometimes people just want one done. First the tank must be located and the one or more lids uncovered. Next the baffles in the tank must be inspected as well as the inlet and outlet pipe. The Solids level is then checked and determines if it needs to be serviced.

Septic system cleaning

Traditional System

First the tank must be located if the home owner doesn't know where it is. This is done with a tiling probe (a 5' or 6'x5/16"diameter rod with a ball a little larger than the diameter of the rod on the end to make a larger hole in the ground so there is no resistance on the rod. The other end of the rod has a tube welded as a t for a handle on it.)This is rammed into the ground until you hit the tank. You then locate the corners or edges and based on the size and shape of the tank it will tell you where the lid is. You then use a shovel or micro excavator and dig it up to expose the lid. Lift the lid off drop in the hose that is connected to the tanker truck that the vacuum pump has created a vacuum in and open the valve. If the material in the tank is too solid water must be added and the solids stirred with a paddle or weed eater motor driven propeller. When the waste has been thinned out enough it will vacuum up quickly. The idea is to get all the solids out of the tank. The tank is always full of water up to the bottom of the outlet pipe. Once emptied make sure the toilet will flush if the customer is home. Replace the lid. If it is deeper than 12" the health department requires a riser be installed to within 12" to allow ease of access for cleaning then cover it up.

Aeration System
(miniature waste water treatment plant)

Depending on the design some aerations have lids at or above the ground level. Some have a collection\holding tank with multiple chambers and others have one chamber. The multi must have the first chamber uncovered and cleaned then proceed cleaning the rest of the chambers. The single has one lid above ground and can be opened and cleaned. They all contain some type of filter that must be cleaned and a holding tank. Since it is an air-ration it means air is being forced into the waste/water mixture to feed bacteria and break down the solids faster.
