Site Launch, New York Public Library: Style Guide
30 October 2001: Happy Cog, in cooperation with NotLimitedNYC, has produced
Phase One of a standards-compliant
Style Guide for The Branch Libraries of The New York Public Library.
The guide is part of a larger effort to bring uniformity,
accessibility, and compliance with W3C recommendations to The Librarys
vast site.
Phase One of the Style Guide also makes a dandy
tutorial for any web designer or developer working with XHTML
and CSS.

accessibility, standards compliance, and a template system facilitating updating
and maintenance.
The project was so successful that within weeks
of the launch, the Librarys free classes were filled to capacity.

Weekly
A List Apart
Happy Cog designs and maintains A
List Apart, a weekly online magazine for people who make websites.
The non-commercial zine covers design, code, and content and
enjoys 60,000 page views per day, 1.8 million per month.
In February 2001 ALA was one of the first sites
on the web to switch to an entirely standards-compliant, CSS-only design format.
The sites content is available to any web browser or Internet device,
but its design is only visible in CSS-compliant browsers such as IE5+, Netscape
6.x, Mozilla, and Opera 5.
Why would we do that? Read this.
A List Apart is hosted by Happy Cog affiliate Webcore
Labs.
