About Graphic Design

Before the term graphic design was invented, graphic designers were called commercial artists. Commercial artists are just like fine artists (painters, sculptors, photographers). Both types of artists create works of beauty and are highly respected by society. But commercial artists must connect with a diverse audience because our work is being used to market products, brands, services and events.

Today, graphic designers almost always create their work on computers. Digital technology is fast, efficient and can easily be copied or published. Traditionally, our work has been reproduced in print. However, more and more designers are working in digital media (web, apps, ebooks, displays, film, etc).
